Obama’s 2011 “Budget” – Is That Sarcasm?

Today, the Obama Administration released its $3.76 trillion budget for 2011.  The budget’s ugliest features are a $2 trillion tax increase on upper-income taxpayers and businesses, and a $1.56 trillion deficit. This new abomination of tax-spend-borrow waste is less of an actual budget than it is the Christmas list of a spoiled brat.

State of Disunion

Despite the public outrage with and spectacular failure of his signature policy initiatives, in last night’s State of the Union Obama confidently promised to pursue an ambitious liberal agenda of intrusive government. Like a desperate poker player with a losing hand, Obama is too proud to fold, and hopes to bluff his way to victory. Along with the usual tedium, vacuity, and arrogance of any Obama speech, the State of the Union was also rank with deceptive rhetoric, misleading half-truths, and outright lies. Some of the most egregious examples are described below.

Banking on Failure

This past Thursday, the Obama Administration proposed a “financial-crisis-responsibility fee” on select financial institutions which received TARP funds. According to the Administration, the tax would be 15 basis points (.15%), levied upon liabilities (assets minus Tier 1 capital and uninsured deposits) of financial institutions with $50 billion in assets, and is projected to collect $117 billion over a 10-year period. The Obama Administration claims that the top 10 financial institutions will pay 60% of the expected revenues.

Free Speech Event

The BUCC is proud to sponsor an event on the future of free speech at Bucknell called “Free Speech and Bucknell.” Adam Kissel from the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) will discuss issues regarding the current case on our campus.

Were you offended by the Affirmative Action Bake Sale? Come hear the reasoning behind it.

Do you think the Bake Sale was a great satirical event? Come hear what FIRE is doing to try to defend free speech at Bucknell University.

The event will begin at 6:30 on Tuesday, September 29 in the LC Forum.

Free Speech at Bucknell Still Silenced

The war on free speech is still in full swing, as FIRE (the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education) has noted in its most recent press release about the case at Bucknell.

A culture of fear appears to be chilling expression at Bucknell University, where even the student newspaper fears a libel lawsuit from Associate Dean of Students Gerald W. Commerford if it were to print a critical advertisement from the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE). After Bucknell administrators misapplied and abused Bucknell’s Sales and Solicitation and nondiscrimination policies last semester to shut down the Bucknell University Conservatives Club’s (BUCC’s) protests of affirmative action and President Obama’s economic stimulus, the group turned to FIRE for help.
